14th Triennial Assembly Uniting Church in Australia

While most of us in the eastern states shiver through icy temperatures, over in Perth approximately 300 members of the National Assembly continue to meet in temperatures that today are set to top a sunny 20 degrees.

Nearly at the half-way mark, Assembly delegates have witnessed the installation of a new president and appointment of a general secretary, welcomed overseas guests, discussed the implications of same-sex marriage proposals and prayerfully considered the business of the church.

Today, the Chair of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Justice Peter McClellan AM, will address the Assembly. He is expected to discuss issues concerning allegations of sexual abuse levelled at Uniting Church institutions, focussing on the financial and emotional impact such abuse has on the survivors.
