A gathering of more than 60 people packed the Speed Uniting Church to witness the decommissioning of the building. Past parishioners travelled from Mildura, Swan Hill, Heywood, Bendigo and nearby towns to celebrate the 101 years the Methodist Church held services in the town. Past minister, Rev Kevin Dobson with his wife, Moderator Isabel Thomas Dobson, led the service. Mr Dobson said the building is closed but the spirit of the church continues.
Les Down gave a brief history of the Speed Methodist Church and spoke of some of the families who worshipped there throughout more than a century. Attendees shared lunch and memories of the past years.
Thank you to all who attended, it is a lovely church in a small rural town I hope it’s spirit continues to shine.
