For Christians the birth of Jesus is not just an historical event to be marked on Christmas Day but is an ongoing story of the way that God is at work in the world.
The period of Advent leading up to Christmas is for many an important time to reflect upon this, as moderator Sharon Hollis notes.
“We slow down in order to see the many places God’s life is being born in us, in our world, and in the church,” she writes.
“The stories of Advent show us the ways this happen and invite us to become participants in these stories.”
Following the tradition of Advent calendars that begin on 1 December, Crosslight is highlighting one story each day that shows how God’s life has been born in the church and reached out to the world.
The stories will fall under the traditional Advent themes of hope, peace, joy and love.
Sometimes love is what helps you find a way back home – just ask a border collie called Rose.
