ON THE weekend of 12-14 September this year, something new is brewing in the West of Victoria. Based in the Grampians, a small group retreat with a difference is being trialled.
The retreat has been organised by Rev Susan Pearse and Julie Andrew from Stawell Uniting Church and Leonie McGuckian from Uniting Church Camping, and they hope it will become a regular fixture on the UC calendar.
“The retreat will combine spiritual journeying with physical journeying,” Ms Andrew said.
“The weekend will entwine guided reflection and teachings using landscape as a focus, meditation, silent contemplation and walking, into a holistic experience that will stimulate and deepen spiritual awareness. It is aimed at Christians who wish to explore their spirituality in an integrated way combining head, heart and breath.”
Ms Andrew said it is important that those who attend are physically able to walk up to six hours on the Saturday and three hours on the Sunday.
“Walking is generally on foot tracks in the Grampians National Park which can be uneven and involve both uphill and downhill walking through 600m in elevation. We will enjoy special places that are less travelled, all the time accompanied with experienced spiritual and local walking guides,” she said.
Based from the Uniting Church Camping site at Norval in Halls Gap, participants will have shared accommodation and meals provided for a subsidised price of $100 per person for the weekend. Participants will gather on the Friday evening and have Sunday afternoon to travel home.
