While most Year 12 students celebrated the end of their school days at beach resorts throughout Australia, two students from Warragul in rural Victoria spent their break-up holiday as far away from the ocean as possible.

Emma Grigg and Philippa Foot are from Chairo Christian College in Drouin. They spent ‘schoolies’ volunteering with Frontier Services in Mutitjulu, an Indigenous community a few kilometres from Uluru. Outback Links is the volunteer program run through Frontier Services.

The girls helped out at Mutitjulu’s Child Care Centre and the Community Care and Respite Centre. Both girls said they didn’t regret their decision to forgo partying on the beach.

“We’re not into drinking or partying,” said Philippa. “It’s so relaxed here; we’re not in the hustle of the city.”
