Sri Lankan Easter bombings response and prayer from Moderator

UCA Moderator of Victoria and Tasmania Rev Sharon Hollis has made the following response to the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka:

On the day when Christians around the world have gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ I, like so many, am shocked and angry at the violence of the attack on Sri Lankan churches and hotels and saddened by the death of so many. I extend my sympathy to the families of all those who died, to the people of Sri Lanka and the church in Sri Lanka and to Sri Lankan communities in Australia. I offer this prayer for Sri Lanka

God of tender mercy
we give you thanks for Jesus Christ
who though alive with us
still bears the scars of death
and comes in solidarity to all who suffer.
We pray for the people of Sri Lanka.
Comfort those who mourn,
bind up the broken heart
and strengthen those who care for the wounded.
Grant wisdom to all who lead the country
that they might seek peace with justice,
reconciliation and compassion.
We pray in the name of the risen crucified One Jesus Christ. Amen
