Uniting174The Uniting Church in Australia’s Assembly Standing Committee has approved Mr Rob Floyd’s appointment as UnitingWorld’s next national director. The national director provides strategic leadership for UnitingWorld’s two units – Relief and Development and Church Connections.

A life-long member of the Uniting Church, Mr Floyd (pictured) has worked for UnitingWorld’s Relief and Development Unit for eight years and has led the Unit since 2010. He said he was honoured to take up the role of national director and looked forward to continuing the UCA’s long-term commitment to the global church.

“I am thrilled to be able to work closely with our overseas church partners on behalf of the UCA, listening to them, learning from them, supporting them and enabling them to be the church in their own context, especially as they help their people to face issues of poverty, injustice and conflict,” Mr Floyd said.

In his previous role as associate director of the Relief and Development Unit, Mr Floyd travelled and met with many of the UCA’s partners across the world, working closely with them to facilitate long-term, sustainable development in their own communities.

He also served as a mission co-worker with UnitingWorld in Indonesia for seven years. While there he witnessed the effect poverty has on people’s lives and the impact that close partnerships and support can bring.

“I know firsthand the joys and challenges that come from deep relationships with our overseas partners,” Mr Floyd said.

“I am always inspired by the amazingly gifted, passionate Christians that I meet and the ways in which I see God at work in and through these people. It has been a remarkable blessing to me that I want to share with people across our church here in Australia.”
