Penleigh and Essendon Grammar First XVIII football coach Ken Fletcher (pictured) has celebrated his retirement from the role by returning the Associated Grammar Schools’ championship shield to the school. The Uniting Church school beat Trinity Grammar by three points on 27 July to cap off an unbeaten season and record the school’s 10th shield win under Mr Fletcher.
Mr Fletcher, who is currently holidaying in Africa, has guided some of the sport’s biggest names during his 25 years as the school’s head coach.
Included in his impressive roll call are Essendon games record holder, and his son, Dustin, six-times Footscray best and fairest Scott West and current Richmond captain Trent Cotchin.
Mr Fletcher’s career as a teacher and coach will be celebrated at a special dinner at Etihad Stadium on Monday 14 October. Tickets are available at the Events@PEGS link on the school’s website
