The former President of the Uniting Church in Australia, Rev Alastair Macrae (pictured) is assisting Uniting Aged Care Vic/Tas establish the new position of Director of Mission. UAC sees the position as vital in strengthening its connection to the Church and Mr Macrae is focusing on:
- Making clear and explicit what is meant by UAC being an expression of the Church
- Networking with the UAC Chaplains and exploring their professional development opportunities
- Working with the Centre for Theology and Ministry to further develop the theological basis for its work and;
- Ensuring that UAC’s vision and values are more fully alive in the daily life of the organisation.
Mr Macrae will undertake site visits to meet residents, clients and staff as well as being actively involved in staff training. He said he was enjoying the challenges of interpreting to the Church the ministry offered through UAC and helping the organisation understand the language, values and processes of the Church.
“I am learning so much about the great work our (UAC) chaplains do embodying the love and care of God in our residential services,” he said.
“I am (also) encouraged that UAC is pursuing a ‘wellness’ approach to ageing and challenging the dominant ‘sickness’ approach in this sector.”
Alistair commenced in October and will assist in finding his long-term replacement before returning to congregational ministry.
