With more than 30 years’ experience in outdoor education and small business, Daniel Murray brings a wealth of practical knowledge to his new position as Uniting Church Camping’s (UCC) General Manager-Business Development.
Appointed late last year, the former Merricks Lodge site manager is tasked with supporting the existing three businesses in the eastern region – Merricks Lodge, Grantville Lodge and Interactive Edventures – as well as developing a strategic plan aimed at increasing the businesses’ penetration in the schools and other markets.
Mr Murray is also keen to devise a plan to develop and maintain the sites.
He said he believed the outdoor experience remained one many young people were still interested in despite their increasing reliance on all forms of gadgetry and inside computer-based activities.
Commission for Mission executive director Rev David Pargeter said Mr Murray’s new role represented a shift in thinking about how to best develop the work of UCC across the Synod.
“We believe Daniel has both the passion and the skills for this important work and we wish him well as he takes up this exciting new challenge,” Mr Pargeter said.
