On Thursday St Thomas’ Uniting Church in Craigieburn will host an Iftar dinner, the traditional Islamic breaking of the fast meal held at sundown during the period of Ramadan.
Twelve people will attend from St Thomas and 12 from the local Turkish Muslim community.
Diners will sit at six tables with an equal representation of Christians and Muslims.
The Commission for Mission’s Cross-cultural Mission & Ministry Unit is hosting a series of upcoming events featuring international theologians.
Visiting Professor R. S. Sugitharajah will be exploring the idea of ‘Decolonizing the Bible’ and broader Christian theology. Dr Sugirtharajah will look at Postcolonialism and why it is important for the Church to pay attention to it.
An upcoming event at the Centre for Theology and Ministry will be looking at relationships between different faith communities.
Professor Mike Higton will examine how faith groups need to find ways of disagreeing well with each other – ways of exploring and understanding their differences, and discovering how those differences can become fruitful for them.
In response to recent budget cuts affecting people with disabilities a Bust the Budget march supporting people with disabilities has been organised for 11 July in Melbourne.
People with disabilities, their carers, families and supporters are being urged to attend and support the march.
