Pilgrim Theological College graduating students were celebrated at a valedictory service last Friday, with some words of inspiration sending them on their way.
“You do have enough and you are enough,” said Rev Rachel Kronberger in her homily to the students at the ceremony held at the Centre for Theology and Ministry.
“You are enough because in Christ we are beloved and that is always enough.”
Preaching on the parable of the 10 young women awaiting the arrival of the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13), Rachel spoke about waiting faithfully even in the darkest of nights, knowing that God is with us.
The annual valedictory service celebrates Pilgrim students who have completed their degrees, and candidates who have been commended to their Presbyteries for ordination.
Acting Head of College, Rev Associate Professor Robyn Whitaker, asked the valedictorians to commit to using their learning and gifts to serve others, before the Academic Dean, Rev Associate Professor Monica Melanchthon, prayed for them.
The students were presented with a candle by the college, symbolising the light of Christ they carry with them.
Candidates for ministry also received a holding cross and a $500 book voucher, courtesy of the Thurnbull Bequest.
This year, five candidates and 13 other students were farewelled, some attending in person and others online.
Students were later celebrated by a reception following the service.
Rachel left the students with these words: “Your torches are lit, your flasks are full of good oil. It is time. Take your torches and go from here in love.”
