Gardening guru Jane Edmanson will share her vast expertise with the public at Amarco Apartments’ open day on Saturday 16 April.
Located in Kingsville in Melbourne’s west, Amarco Apartments are part of Uniting AgeWell’s Kingsville Community, which also encompasses a residential care facility, day respite centre and packaged care program.
Ms Edmanson will host a free information session at the independent retirement living complex from 11am–1pm as part of the centre’s open day. The Gardening Australia and 3AW presenter will give advice on how to maximise limited garden space and create the perfect vertical garden – ideal for people with balconies and courtyards.
The open day is an opportunity for guests to explore the facilities and services at Amarco. The apartment complex will be open between 10am and 2pm.
The philosophy behind Amarco is that everyone is entitled to choose the type of environment in which they spend their retirement and the garden is seen as an important part of a healthy environment. The Victorian Government’s Better Health Channel has a list of benefits for gardening as people grow older. The channel states that gardening encourages use of all motor skills, improves endurance and strength and reduces stress levels. Vertical planting is particularly beneficial as it makes garden beds accessible for planting and harvesting.
AgeWell’s Independent Living Units were established for singles and couples who wish to maintain an independent lifestyle within a caring community environment. Residents can access a range of activities on-site, including regular movie nights, bus outings, book groups, fitness exercises and more. The residents determine what activities are run at Amarco’s Wellness Centre, with weekly tai chi classes a popular choice.
While most people entering Amarco enjoy active lifestyles, they can also request Uniting AgeWell home care packages delivered to their unit.
Ms Edmanson is the first in a line-up of stars to appear at free community events at Amarco over the coming months.
