bread and wine

By Rev John Cranmer

Welcome compatriots ALL
to the ambivalent joy
of being
a bubbling-fermenting
opening-up presence
for the whole of life
and human-civilization

Come fly-wild on the wings
of our frenetically-in-action planet
come fungal-spores of distinction
in the intimacy of overlooked places

snuggling into noses
and ear-holes
and the crevasses
between fingers and toes
nestling lovingly in armpits
and other secreted places

Come be the ones
who put the bite-and-bubble
and piquant-taste
into beer
and wine
and whiskey
and cheese
and bread

Become to the Jesus-Story
and to the World-Story
an irrepressible wildness
a coming of another Pentecost

So Welcome yeasty-ones
you who make bread-dough
discover what it can be!

And so —
Come and be that yeast-in-the-dough
part of the making “all-things-new”
be that sublime subverting influence
working patiently from the inside
working irrepressibly from below the horizon

Come seek to give again
bite and bubble to the strong Story
of a Palestinian Bush-Builder

come be that transforming charisma
remade in the crucible of minds
open-mouthed to the intricacies and wonders
running towards us from a cosmos
constantly made-new
through each technological innovation
and every multi-level discovery
breaking out in the midst of us
