Uniting Church leaders from across Australia are joining interfaith and ecumenical friends today in a statement of solidarity with Australia’s Muslim community.
Uniting Church in Australia President Rev. Professor Andrew Dutney is one of more than 150 faith and community leaders who’ve signed on to a declaration that “We’ll Love Muslims 100 Years.”
The statement is a reference to the banner headline in the Weekend Australian on 9 August “We’ll Fight Islam 100 Years.”

I think this is fantastic, especially as I am one of the Dandenong Trinity Uniting Church representatives on the Dandenong Interfaith Council, the oldest in Australia.
As a Catholic of irish descent I used to hang my head in shame at the bestial acts committed in Northern Ireland during the ‘troubles’, ostensibly in the name of religion.
I can therefore empathise to a smaller extent with moderate god-fearing and peace-loving Muslims who must be in total despair at the ill-informed radicalisation of their own religion by ignorant fanatics.
