2_Popup-playgroupFor many years, the annual Lenten Appeal of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania has offered an opportunity to support a range of community outreach programs.

Each year the Appeal gives church communities a tangible way to live out the compassion of Jesus and his mission to reveal God’s love for the world – especially amongst those most in need.

Last year, congregations from across the synod raised more than $127,000.

These funds assisted peace building projects in Sri Lanka, homeless support services in Victoria, a travelling Op Shop in Tasmania and helped purchase kindergarten equipment for a Tongan community.

Moderator Dan Wootton encourages congregations “as Jesus would say, to come and see the suffering of this world”.

Among the programs to be supported by this year’s Appeal is the Pop up Playgroup program (pictured).

Initiated by UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing, the program aims to provide much needed early childhood programs in the City of Wyndham – the fastest growing municipality in Australia.

Due to rapid growth, the lack of local infrastructure and transport has left many families in the area socially isolated and unable to access early childhood programs.
