The image above is not intended as an insult to Christians, or as a snide joke. Rather, it is aimed at the political rhetoric in this year’s federal election. Both leaders of the major parties profess Christian values, yet the plight of asylum seekers has been exploited for political gain to capture the votes of Australians frightened by the “Foreign Other” – the alien.
Let us remember that the values of Christianity began with the escape of a vulnerable young family from oppression.
