Bursary boost

Hannah Rate (pictured), a member of Koornang Uniting Church, Murrumbeena, is the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania’s first recipient of a $1500 Joan Stott Uniting Church Adult Fellowship (UCAF) bursary for study in 2013.

The bursary has been awarded by the UCAF National Committee (based in WA) whose members agreed unanimously to accept Ms Rate’s application. The Joan Stott UCAF Bursary is annually made available to assist individuals committed to or already studying in the field of leadership or theology within the ethos of the Uniting Church.

Ms Rate is currently studying at Tabor College, Mulgrave, for a Bachelor of Theology. She is a leader of children’s outreach – coordinating the Kids Hope Aus (one-to-one school based mentoring) in her local primary school and teaching Christian Religious Education (CRE) – and campaigns with the Uniting Church’s Justice and International Mission Unit. Ms Rate also plays keyboard in the church band.

“My faith has become so much more real and life-giving just in these last few months,” Ms Rate said.
