Pam Adams, a volunteer with UnitingCare Wodonga, Albury Wodonga Foodshare and the Red Cross Telecross service is pictured with the Prime Minister, The Hon. Julia Gillard MP, during Australia Day celebrations in January.
Ms Adams was recognised for her volunteer work throughout the past 33 years by being awarded the Wodonga Citizen of the Year, the 2013 Victorian Local Hero and, with 31 finalists from across Australia, taking part in the Australia Day awards in Canberra.
“I was thrilled to receive these awards, but these awards are just not for me because I can’t do what I do without my volunteers,” Ms Adams said.
“All the awards I have won are because of the volunteers who have backed me up.”
Ms Adams spends eight hours a day, five days a week volunteering at UnitingCare Wodonga/AW Foodshare Service which collects food from local supermarkets and producers before sorting and distributing it to people in need. She then spends most evenings making preserves, jams and sauces so that nothing is wasted.
